I hope you have all had a great summer and are ready for year 5! The children have already started with their work and are amazing me already. We will be making sure lots of what we are doing in year 5 will be on our class blog which you can find below.

Homework will also be available to see on our class blog for the children to revisit.

Our Topics

This half term our two topics are “stone age to iron age” in history and Change in materials in science. If you have anything that would relate to these topics please feel free to bring them into school and I promise class 4 will look after them!

Home school record books

As your child has been in ks2 before you will be familiar with our record books. These books are for recording spellings, times tables, reading, homework and anything else they will need to know. I will check the children’s record books every Friday so if there are any messages wrote in their I will be able to read and reply to them on Fridays.

Reading

As usual, reading is a very high priority in Mr. Trott’s class. Please record daily in your child’s log when they have completed a read at home. I will check these books every Friday and expect at least 3 entries per week but I am really pushing for 4. Completed reading books can be changed at any point during the week if the book is brought in.

P.E

As we did last year please can the children come to school in their PE kit on the days they have P.E. Class 4 will need to come in their P.E kit on Mondays and Wednesdays. PE kit should be a white t-shirt, dark coloured shorts/tracksuit bottoms or leggings, a school jumper or cardigan and trainers. As we will be outside please also send your child with a clean pair on indoor shoe to change into after.

Homework

For year 5 there will be homework set most weeks. The homework will be written in children’s reading log or will be on our Class 4 blog. This will be stated in the reading logs/blog when the homework is expected to be back in school.

Spellings

As a school we promote the purple mash spelling program. Your child will be given spellings every Monday. We will then do a spelling test on the Friday for the children to complete. You will be able to access the children’s spellings via purple mash.

Year 5 as a whole

During the course of year 5 I will ensure every child has the most fun possible whilst ensuring they are getting the best out of themselves. Year 5 is a year for developing and growing which Class 4 are already doing! This is going to be a super year and I’m extremely excited to have this group.

Thank you for reading all of this I know it was a lot!
