Good Morning Class 4!

I hope I find you all well this morning! I must say that you have all impressed me greatly with your attitude to your learning over the past two days and I can firmly say that we are certainly now on countdown to getting back to school on Monday 8th March (only 8 more days of home-learning left to go)!

Summary of Today’s Activities

  1. English
  2. Maths

English

Today in English, we are going to continuing our work on prepositional phrases. To begin with I would like you to watch the video below which will outline today’s learning:

Task

Easiest:

Write in the first person about entering the dragons’ nursery and seeing the dragons. Remembering to describe the setting using adjectives and prepositional phrases. As an extension underline prepositional phrases with a coloured crayon and a ruler.

Middle:

Write in the first person to explain entering the the dragons’ nursery and seeing the dragons. You must include at least two prepositional phrases and a range of adjectives to describe the session. As an extension, underline your favourite prepositional phrase with a coloured crayon and a ruler.Write a sentence to explain why you have chosen this prepositional phrase as your favourite.

Hardest:

Write in the first person about entering the dragons’ nursery and seeing the dragons. You must include at least three prepositional phrases, a range of adjectives and a simile in Your writing. As an extension, underline your favourite prepositional phrase, adjective and simile with a coloured crayon and a ruler. You must then explain why you have chosen this phrase.

Here is the example sheet of phrases that I showed you in the video:

Here is my example piece of writing too:

Slowly, I walked into the cave, my heart was racing, under my foot was a pile of dragon poo, I jumped backwards onto a precarious, narrow, rocky ledge. I sighed loudly as I caught my breath, I thought that I could hear my heart beating in my head, I peered further into the cold, damp tunnel. In the distance, I could see a group of grey, scaly dragons laid on top of one another.

Maths

Hopefully you enjoyed your maths activities yesterday from the national academy and that it has helped to refresh your knowledge of shape.

Year 4:

Today year 4 we will build upon our angles knowledge by exploring acute and obtuse angles. It is really important to ensure that you watch the entire video and complete the mini-activities too as you go along.

I have placed a copy of the worksheets onto seesaw.

Year 5

Today year 5 we are going to be identifying regular and irregular polygons by reasoning about equal sides and angles. In a similar vein to year 4 children it is really important to ensure that you watch the entire video and complete the mini-activities too as you go along.

Science

In our science lessons over the coming weeks Mrs Plant has asked us to explore sound. We will spend a little time over the next couple of weeks utilising the resources from the National Academy and then she will pick up with the remaining elements when we return to school. French

Very kindly Mrs Platten has created a range of French lessons for us to complete. Unfortunately, I forgot to post lesson 3 onto the blog during the last week of last half-term. Therefore we are a lesson behind the other children, however we will get caught up this week. I know I say it every week, but Mrs Platten is epic at French! Please see details of the lesson below:

Bonjour! We’re going to start today’s lesson with a little French poem. This is often used with French children to help them learn their numbers. I’m sure you know numbers to ten already – have a quick practice and shout them out…. GO!

OK now you are warmed up and ready let’s take a look at the poem.

Watch the video to hear the poem being read and to find out what your first activity is. Then pause the video whilst you complete the activity.

When you are ready, play the video again for aquick-draw game. The game will also give you the answers to the first activity so you can check your own work.

Now we’re going to look at creating some new sentence stems. J’adore means I love and je déteste means I hate. Can you translate these sentences?

Your final task for today is to used what you have learned today to create your own sentences like the ones above.

Challenge: Write the correct French word for each animal you choose instead of drawing a picture.

À bientôt!
