Home-Learning – Wednesday 20th January

Good Morning Class 4! I hope you are all well this morning. I am very much looking forward to today’s activities and can’t wait to see your responses. Please note, we have a busy day today, try not to feel overwhelmed by it all, get done what you can today, anything that you don’t get done can be completed during finishing off Friday.

Today we will be:

Summary of Today’s Tasks

  1. Guided Reading.
  2. GPS
  3. English
  4. Mini-Maths
  5. Well-being
  6. French
  7. Science

Guided Reading

Today we are going to take a different route with guided reading. We have spent some time looking at fiction (Boy at the Back of the Class), but I feel that it would be important to look at Non-Fiction too.

As with previous days please listen to the video below first and then you can answer the question sheet on seesaw. I have also included an image of the text for you to follow as I read.

GPS

Today in your GPS session we are going to revise our knowledge of word classes. Please watch the video below, completing any activities as you go along.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-revise-our-knowledge-of-word-class-c9k6ct

Submitting your work: If you would like to share the work that you have completed in this task you can do using seesaw, take a picture of any writing or type up your work using the notepad. Please ensure your work has the date and subject area written clearly at the top e.g. Tuesday 19th January – Fronted Adverbials.

English

Today in your English session you are going to continue with your Non-Chronological report on the Anglo-Saxons. I have created a brief support video covering what I expect from you. Please note I have only briefly discussed how you could construct your next section. I would like you to go into much more detail and use a range of devices to engage with the reader. When considering what information to use in your report you can draw this from any of the Anglo-Saxon inspired work that we have covered over the past couple of weeks.

Mini-Maths

Well-Being Wednesday

It is well known that physical activity has a positive impact upon our well-being. Even a short 10 minute brisk walk can have a positive impact on our well-being. Therefore it you are at home your task is as follows:

Go on a 10 minute brisk walk with your adult at home, jot down what you have seen (wildlife etc) and you could even take some photos to share on seesaw/the class blog.

If the weather isn’t suitable for a walk out and about you could have a go at this Joe Wicks work out:

French

Mrs Platten has kindly shared a French lesson with me that you can have a go at to develop your knowledge of animals in French. Please see details below:

Can you remember the names of any animals in French? This week we are going to look at pet animals. Take a look at these images. Which names are similar or the same as in English? These will be the easiest ones to learn. Which looks the most different? Challenge yourself to learn that one. Remember un or une means ‘a’. un is masculine and une is feminine.  (piccollage of animals)

Now you can start to use some of the animal vocabulary in a sentence. Look at this image. (piccollage)

What do you think the children are saying to each other?

Task 1:

The girl is asking if the boy has any pets and the boy replies that he has a dog. Your task is to create some similar conversations. You can use any of the animals from the photos above. You could even create supporting pictures/illustrations to help the reader.

Task 2:

I have uploaded a cross-word onto seesaw for you to have a go at.

Science

Mrs Plant has planned your science lesson for today: please see details below:

Last week you had a reminder about ‘What is light?’ and I asked you to tell me what you knew about light already and what you would like to find out more.

One of the questions asked was

‘What surfaces reflect light?’

and that is what we are going to look at this week.

To start I would like you to watch the video from Oak academy to find out more.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/which-materials-are-reflective-6cu6cc?step=2&activity=video

Now you know more about reflective surfaces I wonder if you could help Wee Willie Winkie to solve his problem.

Watch the short video clip and explain why he had an accident that night. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zs3ygk7

Can you design an outfit that will help him when he is checking everyone is safely tucked up in bed?

You need to make sure he is safe in both lit and unlit streets.

Home-Learning – Tuesday 19th January

Good Morning Class 4! I hope you are all well this morning. I am very much looking forward to today’s activities and can’t wait to see your responses.

Today we will be:

Summary of Today’s Tasks

  1. Guided Reading.
  2. GPS
  3. Maths
  4. Art
  5. Music

Guided Reading

Once again I have recorded myself reading the book, chapter 12 this time. Please watch the video from the link below (remembering to click on the CC logo) and then answers the questions below in full sentences.

Submitting your work: You can either write out on paper (don’t forget the date and I can statement or you can type up on the notepad feature on seesaw – My preferred option.

GPS

Today in your GPS session we are going to have a recap on fronted adverbials. Some of you might remember these from when we looked at it in school. Don’t worry that we have covered this in school previously, I want you to have a recap today so that you can use this skill in your NCR.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-explore-the-functions-of-fronted-adverbials-60u68e

Submitting your work: If you would like to share the work that you have completed in this task you can do using seesaw, take a picture of any writing or type up your work using the notepad. Please ensure your work has the date and subject area written clearly at the top e.g. Tuesday 19th January – Fronted Adverbials.

Maths

Once again for maths we are going to split into our separate year groups for maths:

Year 4: Written Methods (multiplication)

Step 1: Watch the video below (pause the video to solve the questions/complete any tasks):

Step 2: Complete the work sheet that is on seesaw.

Year 5: Multiply three digits by two digits

Step 1: Watch the video below (pause the video to solve the questions/complete any tasks):

Step 2: Complete the work sheet that is on seesaw.

Art:

Today in our art session we are going to be continuing our work on sculpture by investigating the great Anthony Gormley. Some of you may be wondering as to why we are studying Anthony Gormley when he is not an Anglo-Saxon. As part of the art national curriculum we need to learn about famous artists and due to us completing a sculpture unit I felt it would be important to learn about a famous sculpturer from our time and apply his skills and techniques to our work.

Step 1: Mini-review. If you were able to create a sculpture last week I would like you to carry out a review:

I can review my work

  1. Tell me what you like about your pottery. Think carefully about what went well and the likeness to Anglo-Saxon pottery/jewellery.
  2. Tell me what you would do to improve your work.

Remember to explain why!

Step 2:

Watch/listen to the presentation below on Anthony Gormley.

Step 3:

Create an artist research sheet (like the one we did for Marina Debris in school). See the example below on what you could include in your research:

Remember to:

  1. Include the short date and I can statement.
  2. Tell me about Anthony Gormley – Who is he, what is he famous for, does he have any children?
  3. What type of art work is he famous for? Could you explain what this is like I did above for abstract art?
  4. Could you provide examples of his work? – No printer, no problem, draw his work or give a description.
  5. Could you analyse his work? What do you like, what do you dislike? How has he created his work?

YOU DO NOT NEED TO PRINT ANYTHING OUT IF YOU DON’T WANT TO/NEED TO. DO NOT PANIC IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A PRINTER.

Where to research:

a) Lots of information can be found on the video that I created.

b) The following websites may be useful:

Antony Gormley: Facts and Information

https://www.chaucerjunior.org.uk/blog/?pid=73&nid=71&storyid=1620

Submitting: You could complete the task on a large sheet of paper or you could complete using a suitable piece of software or an app. Please take a photo and upload to seesaw.

Music

In our music session we are going to continue with our work on duration. Today we will be exploring on and off beats:

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-understand-the-difference-between-on-and-off-beats-crr3gd

If you want to share your work with me, you can do using seesaw.

Seesaw responses

Good afternoon children. I’m having a few problems with a slow internet connection today. Therefore, I may struggle to get a response posted to the tasks that you have completed today. But I will make sure that I responded to each piece of your work tomorrow, if you don’t hear anything today.

However, don’t worry about your work for tomorrow I have manage to record all lessons and create the resources.

Please check out the video below for instructions and information for the task (note: since uploading the video I have discovered that I have some how chopped off the first 30 secs whilst editing, don’t worry you have not missed anything its just me reading the lesson objective, I can identify the locations of Saxon Kingdoms and settlements):

I’ve had reports that the video is not showing up on some devices. If this is the case you can copy and paste this link into a web browser to view the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qo4dH271xxs&feature=youtu.be

Activity: Complete the map on seesaw using the information from the video.

Computing

In our computing lesson today we are going to apply the skills learnt in the last IT lesson regarding font sizes and styles to create a newspaper about the Anglo-Saxon invasion of Britain. Please watch the video below up to 2.28 (no further).

Task: Using the information from my video and the horrible histories video I would like you to create a newspaper report about the Anglo-Saxon invasion, using the 2do on Purple Mash If you have any problems accessing this 2do simply search for Blank Newspaper on Purple Mash. Also remember to import suitable images using the plus symbol on the template.

Purple Mash spelling – Updated

We are having a few problems with purple mash for the year 5 children, myself and Mrs Holland are currently addressing this problem and hope to have it resolved by the end of the day. If you haven’t completed the task, do not worry. Year 5 now sorted

We have also discovered a problem with the year 4 activities on Purple Mash and we are working to address the issue. As above, don’t worry if you can’t complete the task.

15th January – Activity Update

I understand some children have had difficulties accessing the maths activities today on seesaw. I have been onto seesaw and re-issued the activities so you should now be able to access them.

I also believe that some of the year 5 children could not access the purplemash spelling resources today, I have checked the 2DO status and re-issued the activity so you should now be able to access the activity.

Mr Mallison has hit a technical glitch – but don’t worry guided reading will return on Monday.

Good Morning Class 4,

Some of the more eagle eyed of you will have noticed that the celebration of work has taken a break since Wednesday. In the coming weeks the celebration of work will take place on a Friday only so that it is easier for you to view the blog throughout the week.

Maths

Once again for maths we are going to split into our separate year groups. Based upon the feedback that I have received thus far about the Whiterose resources we will continue to use them, however If I you haven’t fed back thus far I would really appreciate finding out what you think about the resources. I would really like to know:

  1. Was the video useful? 2. Were the questions challenging enough? 3. Do you/would you like additional questions to solve?

Finishing off Friday

I would like you to spend some time finishing off any activities that you have yet to complete. You could spend some time looking at any of the extension activities that you haven’t completed yet. You could check back through your work and see if there are any RT that you need to complete.

Treat

Once you have completed all of your work, I would like you to create a treat for your adult at home. It could be anything, a thank-you card, an offer to help out this afternoon/over the weekend, ask if you could bake them some buns. Anything the sky’s the limit.

You have all been fantastic and submitted some great work but your adult at home has worked really hard this week with you and deserves a massive thank you and cuddle. Even those of you who have been in school, your adults at home have been working really hard this week behind the scenes, don’t forget to say thank-you!

After what feels like a lifetime of using video editing software I have managed to create a video with me reading the book. It is very basic, just a picture of the front cover and a voice recording. I hope to expand on the videos in the coming days, I hope you enjoy this first one. PS: Ignore my rambling at the end of the video, I was restricted to 10 mins on the video editing software and I panicked 🙂

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XthwnPXkdA&feature=youtu.be

GPS

Today we will be exploring complex sentences. At the start of the video some of you may believe that you have completed work on subordinate clauses in the past, especially the year 5s. Do not worry though as it is always important to refresh your skills and this refresher may allow you to include these sentence types in your Non-chronological report.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-explore-complex-sentences-60t66c?activity=video&step=1

Maths

Once again for maths we are going to split into our separate year groups. However today we are going to explore some resources that we have secured to support our home-learning. The resources come from Whiterose maths and personally, I think they are really good. I would however really appreciate your feedback, so if you would like to send me a message to the class email letting me know what you think that would be great.

I am particularly interested in:

  1. Was the video useful? 2. Were the questions challenging enough? 3. Do you/would you like additional questions to solve?

PE – Dance

Time to get active children. We will continue with our dance unit. I would love to bust a few moves and demonstrate my light feet, however I feel that we should leave it to the professionals. Therefore this week we will be dancing with Oti Mabuse.
